September 2024

Latest News:

The month of September has just flown by! I think that I only completed one painting this month. How does that happen? How do I feel like I’m busy all the time but don’t have anything to show for it?

I guess there was that weekend that I did a bunch of yardwork. And then one day I realized that there were two exhibits at the art museum that I really wanted to see but were only going to be there for another week, so I spent a happy Saturday at the art museum.

It feels like in the blink of an eye it’s newsletter time again, and I’m unprepared, lol!

This is hardly a newsworthy situation, but with only one painting, what can I say?

In The Studio:

I’ve started a new online art class this month. It’s actually about using Procreate, which is what I use for my digital paintings. After just a couple of classes, I am completely mind blown by how much I don’t know about using this app. The course is fantastic so far, and I can see that it is definitely going to improve both the quality and efficiency of my workflow. Additionally, the artist that teaches it, Nikolai Lockertsen, is very accomplished, and has so much great knowledge to share about art (far beyond just the Procreate tools).

Working on a course like this definitely draws time away from my regular painting time, so I plan on tailoring the assignments to my dog art theme and sharing them as I go. I don’t know if they will look like finished pieces, but hopefully they will be fun and interesting.

I had pushed myself in August to post more on social media and try to be more active there, but that ultimately led to me just feeling more tired and falling away from social media this month. Looking forward, I hope to find my balance again, posting more regularly and engaging with the many accounts that I love, but on a schedule that is more sustainable for me.

At Home:

The dogs seem to be doing well. My little man had his follow up blood work done, but I don’t have the results yet. He seems to be feeling good though, thank goodness.

His first visit with his new ophthalmologist is coming up soon, fingers crossed that all is still stable with his eyes.

The sassy Chihuahua is doing great, providing emotional support and comic relief on a daily basis. If I’m feeling down, I can always count on an afternoon bout of Chihuahua parkour around the living room, bouncing from one piece of furniture to the next, to brighten my day. I just can’t help but laugh when she does this.

Thankfully, neither of the dogs have been bothered in the slightest by the loads of construction that the county has been doing in front of the house for the past week or so. They have been working on the sewer system with lots of backhoes digging, dump trucks, concrete, etc. My driveway was blocked for several days, but I was able to drive across my lawn and get in and out from the neighbors driveway. I’m hoping this project gets wrapped up soon and things quiet down again.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful September, and that the coming month brings you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the changing of the seasons.

God bless!

Jennifer
