Close up of dog art oil painting Bounding Podenco by Jennifer Robak

Latest News:

The Bounding Podenco oil painting came together this month, and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. There was a point where I wasn’t sure if I should start the whole thing over, but some well planned changes to the value structure made all the difference. The takeaway is that I should’ve planned it better from the beginning.

Lesson learned, as I moved forward with the next painting, I took the time to plan it out much better.

There has been an update to the print store this month. I’ve never been sure about the 11 x 14 inch size that I have been offering for the prints. I’ve been thinking about changing it for a while, and have settled on two options 8 x 10 inches or A4. I feel like these are more standard sizes that will make it easier for anyone looking to mat or frame the prints.

In The Studio:

As the recent oil paintings are getting to a point where they are dry to the touch, I have been doing some research into varnish options. There seems to be a couple of varnishes that will allow for use on touch-dry paintings, as opposed to having to wait 6-12 months. I hope to get one of these soon.

Next on the easel, I have a special painting planned that will be specifically to donate for the next Galgos del Sol fundraising auction (whenever that happens to be). I’ve had the idea in my head but it’s not on paper yet, hopefully I will be able to pull it off.

At Home:

As I write this, I’m still at home resting, recovering from Covid. I’ve managed to avoid getting this for 2 1/2 years, but it finally caught up to me. At the moment, this has completely taken over the subject of “at home”. I’m exhausted.

Thankfully the dogs have been very understanding and snuggly. I wouldn’t have blamed them if they were starting to feel stir crazy. I’m giving them lots of breaks to play in the yard and get fresh air, they have adapted to the change in routine pretty seamlessly. Only the occasional stolen shoe reveals some underlying boredom.

I had to reschedule a vet visit due to this Covid thing. The happy Pod seems to be doing well on his latest medication change, but I will know more in a couple of weeks.

I hope that you are doing well, enjoying the brilliant displays of fall colors, sunshine, and moody skies that October brings. I hope that you are healthy and happy.

Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with dogs and art! God bless!

Jennifer
